Self-Worth: You Are Worth It!

A Conversation about Self- Worth

I do not deserve to be loved, why can’t I just be more? The inner voice often tells us so many stories, the stories might appear to be real, and they may be false. Let us have a conversation about self-worth.

What is Self- Worth?

Self-worth is that internal deep-down sense of being good and valuable. You know who you are, your self-regard and self-respect is evident in the way you value, respect and love yourself. It is an inner journey that takes place within yourself. We may often second guess ourselves when others start to feed us a story of less value and worth based upon their perceptions, opinions, and desires.

Ask Yourself the Following Questions:

  • What do you like about yourself?
  • What do you yearn to do?
  • What are you proud of in your life?
  • What are your talents?
  • What do you enjoy or love doing?

I encourage you to take time to explore these questions in a quiet space, allow yourself to reflect without judgment and simply just be in the moment. You deserve the opportunity to explore yourself as the unique person you are. It takes courage, strength, and bravery to tap into your inner self after negative life experiences have taken over.

You Are Worth It

You may want to give up and it is important to remember, you are worth it!

You can act today by connecting with supportive people, forgiving yourself and practicing self-compassion. You are the only person who can determine your worth.

Explore your sense of self-worth through frequent experiences of success. Utilize your personal inner healthy voice to help you navigate through experiences. Silence those whispers of doubt, shame, and blame. Be bold and speak life into yourself daily.

Practice speaking nice to yourself, be positive and remember you are worth it!

The Three C’s

You may try to use the following skill when you find yourself speaking negatively toward yourself: The three C’s (Catching, Checking and Changing), investigate your thinking which can lead you to reshaping your view of yourself. Take it slow and be kind to your mind.

The Art of Writing

Lastly, you may find journaling or writing poetry as a healthy avenue to discovering your self-worth. The art of writing can take you on a journey of exploration into yourself. A valuable journey many may overlook due to the rapid speed of daily life. I encourage you to slow down. Be patient and remember there is power in the pause. Allow yourself to simply be in the moment, pick up your pen or pencil and write. Your self-worth journey awaits you. You can start today, pause, set your timer if necessary for at least five minutes. Allow yourself to discover the words within that describe who you are.

The emotions, feelings and thoughts will arrive as you write. It is okay and you are safe. Simply be present in the moment. Repeat silently, I am worth it, I am worth it, I am worth it! In the beginning, you may not believe it, but it is okay, you can practice. I believe in you, and you are worth it! I wanted to provide you with a reminder of what you can see about yourself. I created a short poem to illustrate self-worth.

Say It Out Loud: “I Am Worth It”

I encourage you to read it aloud, slowly and allow yourself to sit with the worthiness you deserve. Explore your emotions and thoughts after reading the poem. Journal your experience and hug yourself. Choose you every time, look in the mirror as you recite the poem. At the end say, ‘I am worth it, I am worth it, I am worth it!
